Jess Staples

Jess is a Provisional Psychologist with a warm, down to earth approach to therapy. She enjoys getting to know each individual client and is passionate about supporting each to understand themselves deeply, achieve optimal functioning and build a life that feels good in a way that works for them.

Jess completed her Bachelor of Psychological Science at University of New England, before completing her Honours year at Deakin University and Master of Professional Psychology at LaTrobe University.

Jess has experience working individually with children, adolescents and adults in a mental health setting and extensive experience working with kids and families before entering the psychology world. She enjoys working with a variety of concerns, particularly mood and emotional difficulties, anxiety, relationship-based challenges and all issues affecting kids, teens and their families.

Jess is primarily trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), however draws on principles of many other approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Family Systems, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). She is currently working towards Level 2 Radically Open DBT training.

Originally from New Zealand, Jess tries to sound a little more Australian every day. She's up at 5am for the sunrise every morning and dreams of one day being brave enough to enter City to Surf. A teenage client once told Jess she couldn't decide if Jess was weird or cool. Jess isn't sure either.

The Centre for RODBT and DBT provides the full RO DBT and DBT programs to adults, teens and families.
